Jack, I have decided to go for an under 5,000 dollar Grant from
Caesar's
Foundation to help offset some of Cemetery repair this year. I was going
to get pricing on fencing on the Shirley and Old Salem Church. I would
like to know what other needs there would be in the Township Cemeteries
that the money's could be used for. I need to have it written and in by
March 30 Would know by June 30 of their findings. I have gotten
permission by county engineer to put chain link fence up to the road at
the Shirley. Will start getting fresh dirt whenever there is a burial in
the Edwardsville Cemetery. Will start cutting trees whenever it gets a
little warmer. Let me know on our immediate needs for the grant and I
will start writing. Let me know what, if any ground cover we should be
using. I have a retired Biology teacher in the neighborhood that would
help on getting cuttings I think. Dave
To the List;
The above is a copy of an E-mail I received from the Georgetown Township
Trustee here in Floyd County. His Name is Dave Riley. He is Newly Elected. He
takes his job very seriously and understands the conditions of the cemeteries
in his Township. The above is why you can't paint the Twp. Trustees with a
broad brush as far as trying to the best of their abilities to fulfill their
obligations. Dave's cooperation is highly commendable, and his intentions are
very Honest and Forthcoming. He has decided to try to take advantage of a
Community Grant from Caesar's Gambling Boat in Harrison Co. on the Floyd Co.
Line. This is proof of his willingness to get the money where ever it is
available. I am looking forward to working with him, which I already have,
along with Nathan Hack, A Boy Scout that is working toward a Merit Badge in
the Shirley Cemetery, hoping to become an Eagle Scout. I wish them both the
best.
Now for the part I don't relish having to tell them and having to tell my
wife of 53 years as of March 9, 2003. Monday, March 3rd. I go into Floyd
County Memorial Hospital for very Extensive tests on My Heart. I have had a
Leaking Valve for years. My Heart Specialists doesn't understand why it was
not replaced on April 11. 1997 during Open Heart Surgery for Quadruple
By-pass. It is not if, it is only a Question of when, I will Return to Jewish
Hospital in Louisville Ky. to be opened up again and have the Replacement. On
Monday I place my self in God's Hands first, and then the Very skilled hands
of the Jewish Hospital Heart-Lung center. I am an Optimist first class.
The Tests alone will have me down for at least 3 days. My wife is very
depressed because this would have only added less than 30 minutes before,
during the other operation, and now with this oversight, I will have to have
another very painful and debilitating operation. I came through fine in 1997
when I was 6 1/2 years younger. Now at my age, my chances have lessened
slightly. I don't mind this, I have no options. I understand this. I am a
realists, I understand whatever God has planed for me I cannot Change. My
only regrets are, spring is coming and I have tried hard to get cooperation
in Floyd County since 1999, and Now that I have Trustees like Dave and Tom
Cannon, and I know Dave's brother Jim also, to finally really pitch in and
make a change I had all but given up on, I may very well not be able to
participate in.
I hope for the best, but regardless of the outcome, I know the work
will go on in Good hands. Dave, I am sorry I can't answer your Questions, or
help right now with the things necessary for the Grant, But I wish you the
Best. I know you will do what you can. I wish to thank all on the List for
the hard work you have all done, and will continue to do. With Gods help I
will be back. I am not a quitter. We do not all get to finish what we start,
but we try to the end. As I told my wife today, I need no pity.Iv'e done my
best. I will not be back on until I am able to return, but I will be doing
that dirty old "Lurking". I will be BACK. My best to you all, God Bless and
good Luck, Sincerely,
