I agree with you about the neglect, although my Granddaughters husband said
his grandmother said they maintained their cemetery down in kentucky from the
time of the first burial in the early 1800s. This was told to each succeding
generation so they could maintain the graveyard. As far as I am concerned,
this debunks the very idea of not keeping them clean, as described in the
source used by the DHPA literature. As I said, they should not use that as a
refrence for cemeteries in indiana, because it is not the custom here.
Indianas Black settlers did not bring that to Indiana with them. If they did,
where is the source for proving it. I have only heard what is done in another
state, where I also understand that due to that belief the cemeteries grew up
and when the Developers went in they destroyed them and they no longer exist.
The studies the lady made as far as I am concerned is badly Flawed, depending
on information about cemeteries hardly in existence because of it.
