Straightening Up the Yard: Basic Hands-on Cemetery Preservation Workshop
Day One: Cemetery Restoration Research Methods
Friday, June 24, 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.
Location: Indiana History Center, Indianapolis
Betty Warren, president of the Indiana Genealogical Society currently
working in the Genealogy Division of the Indiana State Library, and
Jeannie Regan-Dinius, DHPA-DNR officer and coordinator of the Indiana
Cemetery and Burial Grounds Registry, will address basic research
methods for cemetery restoration including how to access and use local
government records.
Day Two: Hands-on Basic Cemetery Restoration Workshop
Saturday, June 25, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Location: Friendship Cemetery, Johnson County
Participants will take individual stones through the entire preservation
process, from cleaning to straightening and resetting. Instructors John
Walters, Micki Walters, and Daniel Faris will instruct and supervise
participants in the use of appropriate preservation techniques.
Participants will learn and practice skills including stone cleaning,
resetting leaning stones, resetting stones in slotted bases, and global
positioning system.
