Subject: State Senate County Government Study
Commission Meeting.
Editor: Indianapolis Star
Mr. Dennis R. Ryserson
Mr. Ryserson,
I read with great interest the article by your reporter, John Fritzeon, on
the Central State Hospital's old burying grounds.
It just so happens that tomorrow Thursday, July 31, we, the State wide group
from the Indiana Pioneer Cemetery Restoration Project (INPCRP) will be
meeting with the State senate's County Government Study Commission on
pioneer cemeteries. The article covers one of the things that are of great
concern with us. Many of the old cemeteries that have been abandoned years
ago are now turning up and you hear "I didn't know that was there."
Cemetery
laws are very vague and contradictive of each other, they need revised into
something the attorneys, State and local government officials can understand
and go by. You should try to comprehend a cemetery law. They are ridicules
and make one want to give up. Maybe that's why they are written that way.
Below is a copy of the meeting notice we got from Mr. Ken Roney, Attorney
for the Commission, giving the time and place of the meeting. Cemetery
issues will be the first thing up.
We sincerely hope someone from your fine paper, The Indianapolis Star, can
attend and listen to some of the trials and tribulations that we go through
trying to maintain many of these cemeteries.
We will have members from through out the State of Indiana attending.
Sincerely,
Ulysses E. Bush
Henry County, IN INPCRP
