Joan and list,
I had some no# 8 stone donated to me. Just use sand
with it under your bases and tombstones. It will help
level and drain just fine. We used to haul a lot of
limestone in our business. Every county has a different
name for their limestone.
I think as long as you are using something fairly small
with sand it will work. Lets say under 1 inch in size.
Walt or maybe the book, A Graveyard Preservation Primer
by Lynette Strangstad, recommends pea gravel with sand.
(available through the Association for Gravestone Studies,
see our main webpage for their link)
I'll bet by now you have found a variety of bricks or field
stones supporting old tombstones. There is a good sketch
in that book on page 68 of how to use sand and materials
under the stone and in the hole supporting it.

Subject: [INPCRP] Question
Hello Group:
I have been offer some chipped or flaked gravel to use in setting stones.
I may not have the correct name for this product. I am told that it will
pack down.
Has anyone out there used this or know about it?
