Sharon,
Do you know of anyone who has been there that I can talk to? On Wednesday,
we were in section 9 and contacted the owner of the property. He was told by
a Martin Co. genealogy member, now deceased, that a cemetery was on his
property, but said it was on the "west side of his farm". We made the trip
with the property owner who "thought" he knew where it was. When we made it
there, if it was a cemetery, it was not a "traditional" cemetery. We found 6
small mounds of limestone rock not in any particular order and far apart
from one another on the hillside and not at the top of the hill which would
have been a good spot as it was nice and level. It was very strange. No
headstones or anything of that nature. Jeannie said it could be a very early
cemetery or not be a cemetery at all. Who knows.......
I contacted a woman with the genealogy society and she never heard of the
cemetery. We talked with Martin Co. folks who never heard of the cemetery.
The only thing we have been able to find on the cemetery is a hand-drawn map
of Martin co. with a huge dot indicating where all the cemeteries are.
Sutton is on there, but the huge dot just gives us a general area.
The road that you mention that is north of South Martin Church and Cemetery
is really no longer passable as a creek has washed out the road.
I appreciate you giving me this information, but if you or someone else
knows how we can actually find it in the hills and hollars that would be
great!

This is in the area east of South Martin Cemetery. North of South Martin
Church, a road goes east into this section a short distance. South of South
Martin Church, at the "T" intersection, CR10 goes east which curves and
crosses the southeast corner of this section. These are the only two roads
in the area. From US231, go east on CR22 and south on CR27, then east on one
of these roads.
SOUTH MARTIN S8 T1N

From US231, go east on CR22, south a short distance on CR23, east
again on
CR22, then south on CR27, and east on the road that goes south of the
church. Or from US2321, go east on CR10 and north on CR27, and east on the
road south of the church. The cemetery is east of the church on this dead
end road. (v.2)
Angie,
This is what I was able to find out about the cemetery. "in the area"
usually means I wasn't able to locate it on any map.
