Walt,
Are you mixing this sand and pea gravel or is it from a quarry (cement
mix, minus
the cement) ? I am thinking of using
55 gallon drums, premixing in a cement mixer and storing away on the
truck. Do you use any water to promote settling and compaction ?

I keep it more simple, I mix shovel full to shovel full of each into a wheel
barrow, mix it and then transfer it to 5 gallon buckets. I have stock piles
of sand & pea gravel so it is easy for me to control.55 Gallon drums seems
quite a bit to handle.
We need to remember to disturb the least amount of soil as possible to yet
still achieve the repair. There is no need to dig a huge hole.I was shown a
photo once of a couple fixing a leaner ,they said they used a half a pickup
truck of mix to fill the hole. When I looked at their photos they had dug at
least 2-3 feet around the stone .They were actually digging in the grave.
Wetting down the mix is good, NO CEMENT,IS TO BE ADDED.
Leaners can be a simple repair, just remember to keep it simple, disturb as
least as possible.
