Is the other cemetery the Hynds Cemetery? Also, after a couple of tries I
was able to locate Butler Cemetery in nearby Ray Township. It's another
one that will make you cry to see its condition. Only two headstones still
standing there. Others are laying on the ground or are leaning on a tree.
Granted there were probably never more than 15-20 graves in Butler to begin
with, but I hate to see it just fade away. There is one nice monument
there for a Captain William Leas, who died in the Civil War at the Battle of
Chickamauga.

since 1998 there have been reports of cattle in the cemetery. Fence was
supposedly repaired, but I haven't been up there in 3-4 years. If you do
go up there, there is another cemetery on the same ridge, instead of going
to the path on the right, you go to the left. It is a large cemetery, and
will make you cry about the condition it is in.
Helen
I have not been there yet, so I cannot confirm the condition, but
that
is the correct location. Sounds like its in really bad condition.

Jefferson Township Cemeteries
Summary Report
Cemetery Visits 28 Aug 1998 - 12 Sep 1998
MCHGA Cemetery Committee
Stout
Sec 10 T11N R1W
Totally overgrown, stones down and broken. Trees down in cemetery. Has
a fence, needs a sign. A good scout cleanup project. Trustee (Jim
Lankford) knows about the cemetery, has mowed it in the past but not
this year.
Deed Book 30 Page 356, 12 Apr 1871, establishes cemetery. Cemetery is
public
Don't you love how there are multiple cemeteries in the same counties?
Is this it?
