You are an amazing man Jack Briles.
I love your dedication to saving the cemetery. I hope all you new folks
on this list are paying attention to what he is going through. It is a common
fact that all counties have lost cemeteries and land development will find
them sooner or later. How it plays out in each event is different with
people that will either hide it and dispute it or step up and do the right
things.
Please keep us informed Jack. Good luck wading and don't get hurt.

Guess what,? Since I don't have any local volunteers.
I have another one Acre burying Ground that one of the former owners thought
they had cleared.
Well, I found one sandstone marker, that was all I needed. I started using
what I call "cemetery measurements" and laid out the rows .
I laid out 4 rows East- West,
then I set 3 stakes about 150 feet overall North-South, using a sighting
compass, run string between them and started raking the leaves(this is a Clean
woods) and to prove my plan works, I found two more field stones. One was in
the North half of Row # 3, the other in the middle of Row # 4. Then Bad
weather set in.
I found some of the stones along a running spring buried in the bank. They
were used to hold the dirt back.
So far I have Recovered one child's stone and one adults.(In two pieces) and
one with the date 1838, "and 14 days on it. No name. I found the Deed in
2000, but never got back. It was dated 9-17-1839. Now the property is being
Subdivided. The Developer had it surveyed and it is where I thought it should
be. He has a 15 ft. R /of W from his cull-de-sac to the cemetery.
The banks of the spring is exactly 12 feet over on the back side of the
Developer's Lot # 18. This is where the
stones were placed originally. Probably 50 to 60 years ago. It's about 400
feet from the burying ground.
I'm trying to be nice and if it quits raining Monday, I'm going to try to
retrieve them. Anybody got any ideas how I should approach him for the best
results. He can make it Easy for me, or he can make it hard. I'm to old to go
the hard way. (I hope I can borrow a set of Waders)
If it doesn't go my way, maybe I should go to the local Paper.
