I live north of the Southport cemetery and Brad lives south of it. We were
both talking last year about doing something about the vandalism here and
many stones are sinking. It is going to take a large tripod hoist for
most. Plus we will have to introduce ourselves to the new trustee. Ask
Jane if she would be available some Saturdays in the Spring to help and if
she has any kin here at Southport. I have relatives here also. This
cemetery was vandalized a couple of Halloweens ago. ..Bob

I hope you're the correct person to contact. I found
your name on the Indiana Pioneer Cemetery Restoration
Project website.
I visited a cemetery today that has headstones knocked
off their stands and a large hole in the ground near a
grave. It's the cemetery on East Southport Road near
Bethel Memorial Church, in Indianapolis. It has a
historical marker noting that pioneer woman Mary
Bryant is buried there.
I live nearby and noticed the problems. I'd like to
help restore pioneer cemeteries, so if you can let me
know how to get started I'd like to help this
cemetery. I don't want to blunder around as an
amateur, and I can't physically lift the fallen
headstones by myself.
Thanks for your help!
This list is for sharing pioneer cemetery questions, ideas and restoration
projects.
