Hello Peggy,
Actually, my work in cemeteries was what led me to recognize the
medal you described. The GAR Ribbon is found carved in many
gravestones and I had recently given a presentation on gravestone art
and symbols that included several photos of the ribbon. One
example I used in the presentation was a large tree stump gravestone
that had a multitude of symbols on it, including a large GAR ribbon
just like the one you described. Glad I was able to help,
Ernie

Ernie, thank you for your kind response. After many hours and days
of
searching I have not run across this website, it may indeed help me with
several other questions also concerning my ancestors. I realized I wrote to
a cemetery list but knowing the type of helpful people who activate this
list I just knew someone would help me. Thanks to Mark also who may be able
to identify the badge. Thank you again. Peggy in Kansas.
This list is for sharing pioneer cemetery questions, ideas and
restoration projects.
