The Madison County Cemetery Commission will be meeting with Madison County
Commissioners Pat Dillon, John Richwine, and Paul Wilson Wednesday,
September 26th, at 3:30 p.m. in room 108 in the Madison County Courthouse.
The topic of business will be the Hardy-Culp Cemetery, Fall Creek Township.
The public is encouraged to attend.
The meeting will focus on trying to reestablish Hardy-Culp as a pioneer
cemetery. In the 1970s, the land which is the final resting place for 8
people - including two 1812 veterans - was declared through the court system
to no longer be a viable cemetery since it no longer has burials. Permission
was given to remove the headstones and build on the property.
Currently, the land is vacant and the cemetery commission is trying to have
the land redeclared as a cemetery and return the original headstones. A
presentation will be given by two relatives of those were buried at
Hardy-Culp during the meeting.
