Thanks, Joan. There are a lot of native hoosiers who appreciate all your good
work.
My ancestors were Dunkards came into Indiana in 1832 and homesteaded in Kosciusko County,
Jackson township, near Sidney, IN. It took years for me to find where the original
Warners (Werner, German spelling at that time) are buried. I located two cemeteries,
one of which is truly a very old pioneer cemetery back in a woods with only 8 markers,
4 of which are graves of my ancestors, including Johann Werner. Other ancestors,
Kunrad Werner and his wife Katherine Studebaker (Studebaker conestega wagon and automobile
family), is buried in the Spring Creek cemetery north of Sidney on a country road. I am
passing
this information on to my children and grandchildren. I believe it is very important to
know
about and always protect the graves of those who have passed on before.
Best wishes,

DEAR RON:
THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO LOOK FOR THE CEMETERY AND REPORTING BACK TO
ME.
Dear Joan,
This is probably the "Salem Cemetery". I can't tell, because no sign is
visible
from the highway and there is no entrance, path, lane or road into
the
cemetery.
THE CEMETERY IS LANDLOCKED. THE BEST ENTRANCE IS THE ROAD TO THE SOUTH (650
N) JUST AROUND THE CORNER TO THE EAST. THERE IS A LAND GOING BACK ALONG THE
CREEK TO THE NORTH. YOU HAVE TO GET PERMISSION TO GO BACK THERE. THIS IS
THE PROBLEM WITH MRS. HEATH IN GETTING THIS CEMETERY RESTORED. SHE HAS BEEN
WORKING I KNOW ABOUT 5 YEARS. THEY DID GET BACK IN THERE LAST YEAR AND
CLEAN IT UP. THEY HAVE YET TO CLEAN, OR SET ANY STONES. I THINK THE SAID
THE VOLUNTEER FIREMEN IN WILDCAT TOWNSHIP HAVE SAID THEY WILL DO IT WHEN IT
IS STRAIGHTEN OUT TO DO SO. A HUNDRED YEARS AGO THIS WAS THE MAIN ROAD OVER
IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS MILE SECTION. AT SOME TIME IT WAS MOVED TO STATE ROAD
213 AND THE ORIGINAL ROAD WAS PLOWED UP (THUS CAUSING THE PROBLEM GETTING
BACK TO THE CEMETERY).
It is indeed north of Windfall at the northern edge of Tipton County
about
1/4 mi.
south of the Howard County line on the east side of the road.
When I looked at it again from the highway, it appears to be obvious that
someone
has been doing some work in the cemetery. It is not entirely
overgrown
with weeds
or brush; it just appears to be forgotten and desolate.
At any rate, I am glad to hear that it is being attended to. Keep up the
good
work.
LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT
TIPTON COUNTY.
SINCERELY,
JOAN WRAY
