Congratulations to Helen. She and Mark just finished restoring Rossburg and
Shippeeburg Cemeteries as a few stones in Morgan Cemetery in LaPorte County.
They do excellent work and they take pride in their work. They are two
wonderful individuals and a delight to work with.

Subject: [INPCRP] Morgan County Preservationist of the Year
To all:
Our own Helen Wildermuth was honored last Tuesday, April 20, by the Morgan
County
Historic Preservation Society. I had the great pleasure of
introducing her and announcing that she had been named Morgan County
Preservationist of the Year for 2004. She was honored for her many good
works here in the county, most particularly her efforts after the tornadoes
of September 20, 2002. She single-handedly organized a major cleanup effort
in Hilldale Cemetery in Martinsville, the hardest hit of the many
cemeteries damaged by storms. Volunteers from as far away as Michigan came
to the Cleanup Day on October 19, and filled up many large trucks and
dumpsters with tree and building debris. She and Mark Davis then spent a
second day resetting and repairing 25 stones damaged by the flying debris,
and she finished the repairs of 80 additional stones on her own time after
that. Her preservation work is also in evidence in many other cemeteries in
this county, and her documentation on a!
ll of our cemeteries is stored at Morgan County Public Library.
She's
been my friend and co-cemetery geek since the early 1990s, and I'm
very
proud to have been chosen to give her this well-deserved award.
