Angela, I have been out all week recording the locations of cemeteries, and
tonight my wife asked if we could go out for dinner. We did, and I came home
and read the Newspaper articles about what you are accomplishing with both
cemeteries. When they said you were not from Hancock Co. you should have
said, neither were the people buried in the cemetery, they were from
someplace else also. It doesn't make any difference where you are from, if a
cemetery needs cleaning, then the County officials, especially the Twp.
Trustee, should clean it up when someone brings it to their attention. I,
after 2 months out recording locations, better than probably anyone else in
the state know the officials don't get out and see these Burial sites. That's
OK. They don't have to, but when you bring it to their attention like you
did, then they should start looking for the money to clean them up. You are
doing a great job. My wife and I talked it over, and we are impressed with
your determination. I am also impressed with the way you felt when you asked
the trustee if you and your family could clean it up. The Trustee said Sure.
And then your afterthought "That's his job" With young people like you, I
feel our past is in good Hands. Also thanks to The Greenfield Reporter
Newspaper, and the Indianapolis Star for their stories about your aggressive
intentions to see both cemeteries cleaned. Every time there is a positive
story about our Cemeteries being taken care of, that makes someone else
aware, and then maybe we can save another. Congratulations on your
determination, you are winning the battle. If you do some clearing in the
Spring after I finish my recording, Let me know when, and my wife and I will
try to drive up and Help out.
Sincerely, Jack E. Briles
