If you're good with a string trimmer, you still can make mistakes and hit
them, that's why John Walters likes to transplant ground covers around them.
It's labor intensive, and really only works if you transplant in the fall,
i.e. Periwinkle Ivy, but it looks good and keeps mud from splashing up on

thanks for your e-mail bob. the cemetery i'm thinking of is on farmland and
has waist-high grass hiding most of the stones. i don't think the farmer
would be happy with a groundcover, but he would probably be ok with an occasional
mowing. i'm just thinking ahead to finding where the stones are, & don't want
to damage anything with a weedeater.
