I live in this area nad have hunted a lot in there with my father-in-law who was born on a
farm right in that area.
Tarkington Lane runs off Rockport Road and appears to Y but the left hand fork is actually
a long driveway. You keep to the right until the road gets rough and a little further it
now deadends. Going on to his old farm you can see the old road bed and how it continued
across the bottom and ended on Mt. Zion Road - I could show you where. The old
intersection is just north of the Mt. Zion - Crum Road intersection.
If you entered the woods going east at the above intersection and continue into the
bottoms, just before you leave the woods is what little remains of what I believe was this
cemetery. We walked through it once while coon hunting. All I saw were scattered remnants
of creekstone headstones. It didn't look like anything was in place and nothing was
readable.
It didn't appear to have been intentionally disturbed - just in disarray due to the
years, lack of attention, and the soft markers that were used.
The approximate coordinates are 39 deg 2' 48.17" N x 86 deg 39' 9.98" W.
This is private property and I don't personally know the owners. My brother-in-law may
as his proprty abuts this.

Subject: [INPCRP] Tarkington Cemetery, Indian Creek Township (Sec.16), Monroe County
Does anyone know the exact location (coordinates) of the Tarkington
Cemetery? It is reportedly in Indian Creek Township (Sec.16), Monroe County on
Tarkington Lane between Mt. Zion & Rockport Roads. A year ago I drove the
entire length of Tarkington Lane. I does not go all the way from Rockport
Road to Mt. Zion Road--it dead ends. Futhermore, I used Google Earth to
view the entire area between Rockport & Mr. Zion Roads and could not see a
cemetery. It may be overgrown or plowed over.
It must we on private property. What are the laws in Indiana regarding
access to cemeteries on private property?
Does anyone know if any restoration has been done there?
Regards,
Charlie
