I have used several Suction cups, sometimes as many as four to lift polished
stones. I got the idea from watching workers install very large and heavy
glass windows in store fronts.
Here is a link, but some you can buy in stores like Menards and Lowes and
Home Depot

Dear Gang,
I wonder if anyone has had the experience of lifting with your tripod a
polished marble obelisk? This is a 6 foot obelisk, to set on a 4 foot high
base, when I put the straps on it, they just slip up and off. This is not
lifting it at all, this large obelisk, if anyone needs to see it, it is on
www.findagrave.com under the name of America Hughes, Indiana, Montgomery
county, she is in Oak Hill cemetery. I was just using the pod to set it
down on the ground while I leveled the base. We ended up just using the pod
and straps just to help lay it on the ground temporarily. I fear trying to
set this, lifting it up 4 feet in the air, it has to weigh well over 400
lbs, and I do not want to raise it just to fall and break or worse hurt
someone trying to set it. Anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks for any imput
Kim Hancock

Rubber door stops keep the straps moving.

Have you tried this, I was thinking of a rubber tire, but I really wanted to
get feedback on this, it is a little scary having that big boy hanging 5
feet off the ground on a theory. I do appreciate your advice, and the
expertise of all on the list.

When they set the HUGE Bishop Roberts Monument at Lawrenceport, IN they
lowered it with straps UNDER it to about 3-4 inches from the base.
Then spread crushed ice under it and continued lowering it and positioning
it as the ice melted, to a point where the the straps could be safely
removed
There is a picture of the monument at

A wet chamois under the straps will help grip also.
