Yes, I've used rubber door stops, several times in lifting obelisk. Always
bring 4 with me. Here is a unique tool shown here to keep the straps from
moving
When they set the HUGE Bishop Roberts Monument at Lawrenceport, IN
they lowered it with straps UNDER it to about 3-4 inches from the base.
Then spread crushed ice under it and continued lowering it and positioning
it
as the ice melted, to a point where the the straps could be safely removed

Have you tried this, I was thinking of a rubber tire, but I really wanted
