Subject: Association for Grave Stone Studies Indiana Chapter Meeting
Just an update on the upcoming Association for Grave Stone Studies Indiana Chapter Meeting
to be held in Indianapolis on Saturday, March 19th. We have over 40 peopled
registered!
A tentative agenda is attached. Scheduled to speak includes:
AJ Ariens, Archaeologist for the Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry on
cemeteries in the woods;
Mike McNerney, Carbondale, IL on Discoid Neck Grave Markers;
Connie Rendfeld with the Indiana Memory project at the Indiana State Library on
Digitizing Records;
Doug Callahan, Clay Township (Hamilton County) Trustee talking about his efforts to
educating the general public on the importance of cemeteries;
Lillian Green, a graduate student in Public History at Indiana University-Purdue
University at Indianapolis will talk about her project on the Warren Township Cemeteries
4th graders; and finally,
Dick Powell of Indiana University will talk about Indiana Materials Used As Grave Markers.
During the lunch time, tours of the Marion County Genealogical Society Library will be
offered. After lunch, a quick history of Crown Hill Cemetery will be presented, then
tours of the 1864 National Register site.
Coffee and donuts will be available in the morning, but attendees are asked to bring a
brown bag meal for the lunch hour.
