I've never heard of this tradition either, nor have I seen it practiced
since it would require the stone to lean to one side, not front or back
(presuming the stone faces east or west). Sounds like it might have been a
local or family custom, but not one that was widely practiced.
But, I can see where it would make for interesting conversation. After
reading this, I'd consider having mine lean a little to the right.

We have a confederate soldier's grave here in Adams Township (Hamiton

that don't lean at all.

Subject: [INPCRP] Confederate Soldiers' headstones
We recently stumbled upon an older Associated Press story circa 2003 that
old of a Tennessee Confederate soldier who had died in northern Ohio and
ad laid unidentified in a grave near Bryan, Ohio, for 90 years, when a
escendent discovered his southern service, and his Confederate grave
marker was
arranged for, and set "in a particular way..."
is relative, Rosie Alexander, was quoted as saying that "no matter where
n the cemetery the stone is situated, it is to lean toward the south."
e thought that was interesting, and wondered if this was a generally
ccepted sentiment?
