DePauw archive had some sort of early reading, also I think same thing
was in the Putnam county library, but its been a long time, so my memory
isnt accurate.
There is one very old tombstone there with a death date of February 30,
1849.
Larry and Sheila (if they haven't been bounced off the list) would be
the ones to talk to, they will be familiar with it. With the way its
situated on the slope, things
could be interesting. If you live locally perhaps they can organize a
work date.

Hello,
Robert Webb has a question of cemetery ownership on a cemetery in Illinois. Any chance any of you might have had some experience there?

Subject: [Old Bones Cemetery-L] Question
Dear friends,
Am hoping someone can give me some advice. There is an abandoned
cemetery about 25 miles from where I live, on a 2-acre plot, in the
country (surrounded by row crops and pasture with cattle), which was
owned by a Baptist church, and the church closed (dissolved) in about
1930 without making any provisions regarding this cemetery or the 2
acres. Recently some people came to me to inquire about restoring the
cemetery. They came to me because I'm a member of another Baptist church
of the same kind, and the local historical society is saying the property
still belongs to us. I'm not sure whether our local church can appoint
trustees and act on behalf of the defunct church, and assume ownership of
the property, in order to do the necessary things (like getting an access
easement, etc.) to restore the cemetery. I plan to talk to the county
clerk at the courthouse soon, but wondered if anyone has any ideas.
