Correction to the e-mail below. The first address is correct. The second
address should read j584164(a)earthlink.NET

Connie:
Bravo! Thanks for volunteering to be a contact for Blackford and Jay
Counties. Since you are listed as the County Coordinator for Wells Co., it
would be redundant to list you there as the Contact as well, don't you
think?
The on-line list has been duly updated. Thanks.
Lois
Lois, I have a working knowledge of exact locations of all cemeteries in
Wells and Blackford counties. I have produced a booklet with the info about
the cemeteries in both counties and working on one for Jay County. It should
be out next spring/early summer. I would be glad to be a county contact for
all three counties.
Connie Brubaker
The "overhauled" INPCRP County Selector is now on-line. We've added a new
field for "County Contacts". I envision adding names and e-mail links for
folks who (1) care about old cemeteries in Indiana and (2) have SOME
knowledge of the cemeteries in a specific county but perhaps feel they
aren't able to become "County Coordinators" for the county for whatever
reason (lack of time, resources, etc.)
Please take a minute to look at the new page at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~inpcrp/pcrpselector.html
and let me know your thoughts. If I've overlooked a message from you that
you want to be listed as a "County Contact", please drop me a line. If I've
made any mistakes (entirely possible), please say something.
By all means, if you know enough about the cemeteries in an Indiana county
or counties to give folks directions, etc. by e-mail, please speak up and
offer to be listed as a "County Contact". You don't necessary have to have
cemetery indexes at your finger tips, but you might want to have handy the
address and phone number of the libraries where someone could track down
such information.
Let me know what you think. I am absolutely open to suggestions.

Jack Briles <JB502000(a)aol.com> has nominated Ripperdan Cemetery in Harrison
Co., IN to the INPCRP Hall of Shame. Jack has provided me with a couple of
photos and he is presently working up a couple of paragraphs about the
history of the site as well as his findings on its condition and potential
for being restored.
Lois
Lois, I would like to stay on as CC. I have a great deal of interest and
knowledge of the county and the cemeteries and am quite willing to share
that knowledge with anyone. As far a Molly and I working together that would
be fine also, since we do a lot of cemetery work together anyway.
Connie
Connie:
Of course, if you prefer, I'll change you from a County Coordinator for
Wells Co. to a Contact Name. However, your cousin, Molly Kendall
<mugsy(a)tk7.net>, recently contacted me expressing an interest in that
County. When I told her you were the Co. Coordinator, she said she might
take on a different county.
Do you think she would be interested in working WITH you on Wells Co., maybe
as Co-Coordinators?
Truth be told, this "job" is only as demanding as you want it to be. I sure
do want to keep you involved because you know so much about the area.

"Cemetery stands in the way of St. Joe Center widening"
08/27/1999
Ft. Wayne News-Sentinel
FT. WAYNE, IN: Need to widen highly-traveled St. Joe Center Road between
St. Joe and Reed roads, even though it likely means relocating a few grave
sites at Parker
Cemetery.
Full story at:
http://home.fortwayne.com/ns/admin/mon/news2.htm
{Caution: This link is good only for a limited time}
I've had another "brilliant" idea! (Well, that remains to be seen!)
I often get inquiries from people asking me questions about pioneer
cemeteries in various Indiana counties. Obviously, I know little or nothing
"first-hand" about cemeteries in 91 of our 92 counties and I have to troll
around in my INPCRP archives to see if I can find someone to direct them to.
Surnames, road names, directions, etc. don't register with me because I
don't know these areas.
Seems folks in general are reluctant to become involved to the point of
becoming "County Coordinators" for the INPCRP. (Witness the number of
unadopted counties on the Co. Coordinators' page.)
How would you guys feel about telling us what counties you are INTERESTED in
so that I can have a list of folks to refer people to when they contact me.
For instance, at the moment, I've got someone interested in restoring a
cemetery in Harrison Co. If Art Dillman tells me he has no objection, I'd
like permission to refer this gentleman to him. Also, Art may not be the
only person on the INPCRP list interested in Harrison Co.
In the above instance, we've spent several hours talking about his situation
and I think it would be nice if he had someone on a local level to
brainstorm with. In this particular case, the gentleman is a qualified
masonry contractor and pretty knowledgeable about working with stone. He
and his family are willing to undertake this cleanup project themselves.
They are hoping to make some contacts to facilitate getting PERMISSION to do
the work. He's also hoping to investigate the title to the property to
determine whether or not it has been deeded out. I've emphasized that this
is critically important. He has a recorded plat drawing that shows a county
road once went directly to this cemetery and I suspect this one was once
deeded out. The road has now been closed off and incorporated into the
surrounding real estate.
My idea is that it would be nice if I could create a county list with names
and e-mail addresses to refer people to for a local contact. Maybe just
someone to confer with.
What do you all think of this?
Do you think such a list should be published on the website with e-mail
links to the local contacts? Should it be incorporated into the existing
Co. Coordinators' page, maybe a second listing for each county enumerating
"Local Contacts"?
Do you think people would be more inclined to get involved on THIS level as
opposed to becoming "County Coordinators"?

The September 1, 1999 Shelbyville News carried a really interesting article
entitled "Glimpse Into Pioneer Life" that you might find interesting.
The article recounts to details of a letter dated 12/25/1824 from Jerusha
Van Scyoc, wife of James Van Scyoc, to her mother, Martha Sims, in Ohio
County, Va.
The URL is far too long to send by e-mail, but you can easily find it by
