Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Good show Ron!
I'll take a look at it. I would suggest other members do so as well. I
know Lois has been through this stuff before too, I'm sure there are
other members who have experience in that area. I'm depending on you
folks to guide us.

Hi All,
A good place to see how to learn how to organize an organization is
here.
http://www2.ihs1830.org/ihs1830/legal3.htm
Many questions can be answered here and there are sample bylaws,
Mission Statements (important), Overall great how to.
Been there, done that. But this surely makes things easier.
Ron..in Bloomington
You are correct Charles. I hadn't really intended on getting a lot done
at the first meeting. I was more interested in meeting everyong and
getting to know you all a little better. I think it was good for us.
But, now its time start getting some things lined up.
I would like to have a meeting during the month of May. This meeting
will be a closed session of the executive board and membership only. I
consider all present coordinators and volunteers to be members. I do
not want non PCRP people at this meeting.
Here is the basic agenda:
1. Election of officers. (We may need to hold elections via snail-mail
ballot)
(President, Vice-P, Secretary, Treasurer)
2. Adoption of By-Laws
3. Creation of Constitution
Clear statement of objectives and foundation.
4. Membership criteria, cost, and benefits.
5. Adoption of methods, procedures, and field guides.
6. Media statements
7. Lobbying policy and legal position
I have an old laptop that I can setup to type the minutes as we go. Or,
if one among us all knows shorthand, I'll supply a steno book. I need a
volunteer to act as Secretary until one is elected. I can type 60 wmp
but I don't want to be strapped with this during the meeting.
We are all very very busy. I am getting ready to start a new "paying"
job and will be pressed for available time too. I suggest you all keep
a small notebook in a pocket between now and the meeting. As you think
of points that go with items on the agenda, write them down. The
executive board may discuss items via private e-mail but I don't want
any of this on the list until AFTER the by-laws are adopted and Officers
elected.
Now, as for the place of the May meeting: Westport was fine with me
last time and it is again if it meets consensus approval. Someplace
central to the state is the best bet otherwise. The executive board
must be all present to make this effective and I would like to see as
many other volunteers attend as possible. We need to coordinate this
well as this could be a rather lengthy meeting. We will need some
beverages. Maybe if everyone brings their own soft drinks and I'll find
a coffee pot and coffee to bring.
I want to see some discussion on time and place and any other details
that need ironed out. And, of course, a volunteer Secretary.

I think the organization should define what "preservation" means in terms
of the cemeteries... and establish guidlines for individuals to follow.
Scott's previous mailing on cleaning stones of Feb 26 should be clearly
adopted so that others in the group that are not as sensitive to this issue
won't inadvertantly cause damage.

Charles...I think you covered the main topics very well. I feel we should
meet soon as an executive board and hash out these details as soon as we can
before we get into the main part of restoration season. Once it gets
started, I don't plan to do anything else but that. The westport building
was great but I will leave it up to Scott and Lois who have to drive the
furthest...

Ron: October 24 is a Sunday. Are you thinking of October 23? If so, I
have a conflict, but would try to see that someone else from our cemetery
committee attends - they could probably share what we've been doing and the
progress we're making. $25 sounds fine to me. Where are you thinking of
holding it?
Are you going to the Shelbyville program with the archeologist speaker from
Purdue on cemeteries? I wish I could make that one, but if memory serves,
it's on July 10 and I have a family reunion to attend in Ohio.

I don't know if it is nation wide, but I just bought an entry level GPS
at my local Wal-Mart for $50.00 on sale. It has all the basic features
and a couple of bells and whistles. It is the Garmin GPS-38.
I havn't heard back from Garmin on donating a couple of these units to
the PCRP so I got impatient. I'm not going to hold my breath on Garmin
either.

I want to publicly thank Tamara Anson-Cartwright for sending me a copy
of her book, "Landscapes of Memories, A Guide for Conserving Historic
Cemeteries". This book is beautifully written and contains many photos
and diagrams. The book covers such topics as "Identifying Stone",
"Cleaning Stone", and some "Common Repairs". This is a MUST READ for
anyone interested in cemetery preservation.

Was it privet and quiet enough. We could have had it all day if we so

I have the key and will open the door about 9:am Sat Indiana time, or
8:am Ky time but I don't expect the meeting to get really started for
another hour, any sooner and it would be hard for some to get here,
PLEASE GIVE ME some idea of how many will be coming. I will get some
pepsi & ice. If we have any coffee drinkers, maybe someone else can
bring the coffee. I expect some will bring their spouses . Besides that ,
I expect about 2 to 3 from the west side of the state, at least 1 or 2
from the south , and 2 to 3 from the east , and Scott and????, about 6+
from here. I just hope a rep. from The Am-Vets can make it. There may be
more, I hope. If you know anyone that could add constructive thought to
the meeting ""BRING THEM"".
Ron I hope that someway you could make the meeting. You have
brought up some very strong points of interest, We need you!!
Just found out that the same thing happened to a poor farm
cemetery here in Decatur county that happened down by Cross Planes. I
was told that when it is plowed in the spring, you could tell where the
cemetery was at, because of the differant color of dirt ( clay), . I'm
really proud of Decatur County, the way our elected officials has let
distruction happen. Whats more they know they could have stopped it and
can stop even more of it from happening!!

AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS: Sec. 1. This chapter does not apply to the

Evidently it does apply to cemeteries before 1939.
There are lots of items in here of interest. Such as below. Are we
breaking law by trying to just locate grave markers.
SECTION 31. IC 14-21-1-28, AS ADDED BY P.L.1-1995, SECTION 14, IS
AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS: Sec. 28. A person who, with the intent to

burial objects, grave markers, or human remains, disturbs buried human
remains or grave markers either:
(1) without a plan approved by the department under:
(A) section 25 of this chapter; or
(B) IC 14-3-3.4-14 (before its repeal); or
(2) in violation of such a plan;
commits a Class D felony.
Does this mean I can't probe for tomstones and reset.(Discover). But
land owner can bull-doze over???
I beleive this was written to protect Native American burial grounds
(which should be protected). But shouldn't there be something like
this, for our Revoluntionary War, Civil War, WWI vets, or just grandpa?
Good luck in your meeting Sat. I only have 28 years service and have to
work Tues. thru Sat.
