Yes I have been wanting to get up there now that we may have some good
weather.

You'd probably have better luck at the Allen County, IN Geneolgical Library
in Ft. Wayne. It's the 2nd largest gnealogical library in the country.

Nancy my relatives from Owen County lived in Murdock and Tuscola.
Does the Urbana Library have information that would help me with
them?

I live in Fort Wayne but have roots in Owen County, as well as other small
counties all over the country. While we have a great genealogy library,
there is nothing like "goin' local". The small libraries that I have
visited in many areas in the last twenty years have seldom disappointed. I
have one trip from 18 months ago in Illinois that generated enough
paperwork that I am still working to get it entered into the computer.
Local newspapers and genealogies donated by others from the area are almost
always found in the local library, and this helps add wonderful color to
what is an otherwise drab collection of dates and locations.
The web sites that focus on local information are also a great source of
information, but you never know what you will find online. Sometimes they
seem to be a collection of information about certain families, but leave
out others that are not of interest to the folks running the society or web
site. Others include great cemetery listings, obituaries collected,
scanned, and indexed by the local group or library, or certain events that
occurred that left a mark on the community (and probably your ancestors if
they were there).
I may live supporting the second greatest genealogy library in the United
States, but I love the flavor and people in the communities where "my folks"
have lived.
