Have you been able to get a copy of his civil war pension record? This may provide family
information that could lead you to his parents.
There is a William W. Bean in the Civil War Pension Index who was with Company H in the
70th Infantry Regiment, Indiana. He applied for a pension in 1863; his widow, Sarah J.,
applied for a pension in July 1888. Could this be your William?

Subject: [INOWEN] Newspaper?
I am attempting to locate the names of the parents of my great-great
grandfather William W. Bean. William died in Spencer, Owen County in 1888.
Does anyone know if there was a local newspaper that printed obituaries in
1888? He was a civil war veteran so I am hoping that he may have an
obituary. Also, if Owen County has an online will index, can someone point
me toward it? Thanks! David
