I have some answers to some of the posts about James Thom.
This website is about Jim and includes information and a picture of Dark Rain:

This website is an interview with Dark Rain:

If you're looking for stories about Owen County, Jim has a wonderful book called
"The Spirit of the Place: Indiana Hill Country", where he wrote the text and
Darryl Jones provided the photography.
As for the hand-carved grave marker included in the pictures at the
Indystar.com site,
it's for Spike White Rain, who was an English bulldog.
Jim and Dark Rain do have two cats now.
These folks are good people and excellent writers. I hope this article in the paper brings
good attention to their work.

I wonder if James Thom has written any stories about
Gosport? Or Owen
County? A lot of great stories here.. I noticed your line
of descent seems
centered around Owen County for many generations..They left
a legasy. Bob
