Good Morning, Madeline.. Winter here in Iowa has been 'long' and cold. I'm
hoping Mother Nature gives birth to spring some time soon -- She's been in
labor much too long!! smile..
I made a copy of Melba's book 'The Trek of the Hubers Across The United
States' at the Spencer, Owen Co. Library a few years ago. The Indiana DAR
(of which Melba was a member) also compiled a very nice index to go along
with her book. This was done in 1987.
I see on Debbie's SWEET OWEN website that Melba (Haltom) Huber's obituary is
posted by Mike Rastatter. Do you happen to know who he is and where we
might contact him? He could have more information.
Melba's book is about 200 pages; I'd be happy to make a copy for you if you
ll contact me privately with your address, etc.
Best Regards, Nancee

Subject: Re: [INOWEN] ELIZA DUNGAN
Shame on me when I said I only had one other person that contacted me
regarding Eliza. One of these days I'm going to sit down and put all my
saved e-mails in order..........looked in my file and there was the one from
you, you had mentioned Melba's book but that was about it. Everett Huber
was my great-grandfather and Clara Grube that she mentions was my great aunt
and she lived in Wheatfield, In. When I first started genealogy I contacted
Melba from information given me by a Minor (Ella Huber) that lived in
Wheatfield and knew she was working on the family line. I went down to
Greencastle and Melba took me all around to the cemeteries, and other things
she thought I might find interesting. Since I was just starting I didn't
have sense enough to make notes of things I wish I had now.
Thanks so much for the information, I'm going to print it out, so I can
study it, as that is the only way I can have things sink into my muddled
mind. It looks like there is quite a bit that I don't have. I knew Melba was
in the process of writing a book, do you have any idea where I might find
one?
Hope you like Iowa better than Indiana.........and that you're winter has
been better than ours, we have really had a lot of snow, in fact last night
we got another nine inches, and they are predicting snow almost every day
this week, hope it's just little flurries. Thanks again I really appreciate
it.
Madeline (by the way in case I never mentioned it I live in Valparaiso,
In)
