Debbie:
William Kerr, my ggggrandfather, (William, Eli, John F, John E,) was a Justice of the
Peace in Owen county Indiana in the mid to late 1840's. Is there any way to find out
how he was appointed or elected to that position?

Go to this page
http://www.sweetowen.net/OCHGShomepage.html
Search for the name Smith and look in the first column for heirs and the
other column named File Folder.
This will tell you if there is anything held on file at the archives in Owen
County. It is possible that there was no Will.

Still am in need of a look up of a will/
probate for John and Hannah (Gibson)
Smith prior to 1860. Seems the children
were fostered out prior to their each
marrying.
