Connie
I have been looking at that marriage for a long, long time.
I agree much of it does fit, I am hoping to eventually find actual proof of
it.

Debbie,
In the book _Monroe County Indiana Marriages 1818-1881_, there is a
marriage
for a Mary R. Carter to Jos [Joseph} M. Hession, recorded on 23 Sep 1875
in
Book 06, page 071. The name is right and the date fits. Maybe this is
your
Mary R. Carter. A record of this marriage is available from the Monroe
County Historical Society Genealogy Library for a small fee, as they hold
the original marriage books for Monroe County.
Hope this helps.

Okay listmembers this is a long shot question but who knows, it might hit
something.
Does anyone have this person married into their family lineages.
Mary R. Carter b. March 3, 1855 in Harrison Township, Owen County, IN She
appears in the 1870 census of her mother's home, but she is no longer
there
in the 1880 census so I feel that she must have married.
I feel that this marriage most likely occurred in the Owen-Morgan or
Putnam
County areas, possibly even Monroe county.
I am confident that the R. stands for Rosa/Rose or Rosella.
She was dead by the 1900 census taking.
Her brother died in 1893 and is buried properly in Mannan Cemetery with a
large stone.
Their mother is buried under that same stone in 1920.
I have not found any obit or death record under Carter, so therefore the
assumption of marriage.
She was actually a twin sister of Eliza Jane (Carter) Truax Secrest.
However in Eliza's obituary she is only referenced that Eliza had a sister
who died a number of years ago (that obit was in 1925).
