Thank you. I have also learned to follow instincts. It can pay off in a big
way. This old John Michel is very illusive! I am searching for the
background of Elias Michael who lived in Beech Creek Twp., Greene Co., IN in 1845.
I have very little, almost nothing on him except for a marriage license in
1845. Before that, he said he was born in Illinois, Kentucky, and
Virginia! I find nothing on him in either place!

Owen County was created by the Indiana Legislature, December
21, 1818, with an effective date of January 1, 1819. Owen County boundary
changes were enacted by the Indiana Legislature on December 31, 1821,
effective
December 31, 1821; December 21, 1822, effective December 31, 1822;

Greene
County boundaries. Pages 642-649, Indiana Boundaries, Territory, State,

I'm going to venture a "guess" (Most of my guesses since
1961 have turned out to be correct, but not always; when I was able to
finally
document my "guess.") My "guess" is that the jury in Greene County
was
called
to settle an estate where no will existed and the estate included land in
both
Owen County and Greene County. If my "guess" is correct the same record
you
found recorded in Greene County "may" have been recorded in Owen County
also.
(My research over the past 50 years has not been based on "guesses", but
my
"guesses" have been very helpful in locating the needed documentation.)

Subject: [INOWEN] John Michel and Owen County, IN
: To David,
:
: Can you tell me what part of Greene County was Owen County in 1823? I am
: looking at John Michael who lived in Clark Co., IL in 1850. Before
moving to
: Illinois he was in Putnam Co., IN. In an old Greene County, IN Court
: Record, John Mickel was shown as a Juror. The record at that time shows
it was
: Owen County! I know this is off topic, but I don't know who else might
tell
: me what I need to know. We have to know the old County Boundaries to
: really study the old settlers!
