Betty was wondering if our "young friend" visited the falls the day he was
camped out?
I have to tell you, I love it when I see this list active again! We have
lost almost all the old free sites. IF we don't start using this one more,
rootsweb will be part of Ancestry too! I am guilty! I sometimes think of
things I would like to ask the members, but I don't get on line and do it! I
never delete a post without reading it. If I can find an answer, no matter
what family, among my books I reply. Wonderful friends can always be found
here.
I am very interested in learning if any of the AUMAN folks who came to Owen
and Clay County, have had a single man test think about testing his DNA? I
know they haven't for I am the Administrator of the AUMAN ORMAN DNA site!
I wonder if they are descended from Henry AUMAN a Hessian Soldier who lived
near Redding, PA after the Rev. War? I have always wondered if they are
related to David, Henry, Martin and Andrew Orman who lived along the County
line south of Bowling Green prior to 1850. Their father was Andrew AUMAN!

Actually, it isn't the river, it is just the Creek!

I asked my friend who has lived in that area all her life. She says
she
has never heard of the campground you described. She and another
friend
are
wondering if the area you remember could be the one below.
Quote:
"Now down on Fish Creek Road there is the Owen / Putnam State Forest
and it has one tombstone in it. It would lay about half way between
McCormick State Park and Lieber State Park." Betty Herbert, president
of
the
Clay County Genealogical Society checked this out for you.
I have been there. It is down at the bottom of the dam and the river
runs
thru it. It has wonderful wading area and picnic tables etc. It was
shady
on
the hot day we were there, but we did enjoy the afternoon spent there.
It
is indeed a sweet place to camp!
