I've been following this and thought I'd send along a note I put together
some time ago when we were looking for the Spear Cem. We lived in the
Martinsville, IN area at that time... Have since moved to Iowa and my
husband passed away unexpectedly... I also have a map of the area that I've
scanned and will send via JPEG attachment to anyone who might want it; it
shows the cemeteries in the area. Merry Christmas to everyone. Nancee at

Subject: OUR LATEST CEMETERY SEARCH.
Hi Ladies: Yesterday we headed to Spencer and then west on hwy. 46 to find
County road 250W. Using my 'trusty' Owen County cemetery map, we were able
To see that 250W (which we couldn't find), was also named 'Rattlesnake Road'
. Catchy name, huh??
So, we headed north on Rattlesnake Road, looking for county road 275W - aka
Shepard-Patrick Road (as we were to soon find out); When we came to the top
Of the road, we looked to our right and there was New Union Cemetery!! I'm
Sure that most of the folks buried there are related in one way or another.
We took pics of some that we were sure of -- and will be sending them to you
We can always go back again, if you find somebody we didn't get..
Then -- we stopped and asked a local fellow about where Rehobeth/Spear
Cemetery was, and he had NO CLUE. Said he had lived around there all his
Life. So, our trusty Owen County cemetery map showed county road 400W off
Of hwy. 46. Again, no county road numbered signs, but this was Fish Creek
Road, so we took a chance and headed north on it - then left on 425N, and
Left on 510W, then right on a somewhat washed out narrow gravel road that
Went straight up - and, low and behold, on the right, back in the woods was
The cemetery.
NO SIGN WHATSOEVER... It was a beautiful, sunny day and we took pics of
Every Spear and Williams we could find; spent time walking through the
Leaves, locating fallen stones and cleaning them off, and chalking some of
Them. There is a giant oak tree right at the entrance.
We had a very enjoyable time and hope the pictures will be of use in your
Family search.. Did not find Spearsville, but we will!!

Are you sure that the cemetery you are looking for isn't the one
just
Inside the entrance to Lieber State Park? It is an old cemetery and is not
Evident. You have to know where it is to find it. The park staff are a
Great help in locating it.
