Subject: [INOWEN] KKK and how it connects
To Dick Carr and other members of this mailing list---
Regarding the recent posts on the KKK, while it is not necessarily of
genealogical nature (unless, of course it mentions names) -- the post about the
KKK and their existence is of extreme historical interest to anyone researching
in these counties. I feel it gives us some perspective on our ancestors, their
way of life, their belief structure and many other things.
As I have mentioned NUMEROUS times before when persons have similarly had
problems with ancestors who were slave owners---
These things are not necessarily pleasant, BUT, they did occur. You cannot
simply ignore them.
It would be just great if we could research only the "good stuff" but unless a
person is extremely fond of blinders, you must take the good with the bad.
I doubt that there are many families who don't have SOMETHING in their history
that is best forgotten, but if you are a researcher you must researcher it ALL.
If you choose not to see it all, you need not research.
To remove anything unpleasant you would need to ignore--
DEATHS, WAR, SUICIDES, MURDERS, PRISON TIME, INSANE ASYLUMS, POORHOUSES, ABUSE,
UNEMPLOYMENT, EPIDEMICS....
In removing all these things- well, you would be in many cases eliminating a
great deal of resources for many people.
