The Casparis Stone Quarry at Romona was the scene of a bad accident Saturday
afternoon about five o'clock by which one man, Michael Carmicello, an
Italian laborer age 28 years, lost his life and a colored laborer named
Tilman, was slightly injured. The accident occurred while a gang of workmen
were engaged in loading heavy stone on cars. A guy rope on the derrick
broke allowing the heavy mast to fall among the workmen. It struck
Carmicello on the shoulder dislocating it and injuring him internally. Dr.
Coble was dispatched for but his injuries were of such a nature that nothing
could be done to save him., and he bore his sufferings until ten o'clock
that night when death relieved him. His remains were taken charge of by
Undertake Ed Drescher, and his body was taken to Martinsville Monday morning
for burial in the Catholic Cemetery. The deceased leaves a wife who is in
Italy.
