Hello Constance & Barb:
Somehow I received a copy of the e-mail 9see below) that Constance Shotts sent to Barb.
My name is Richard "Dick" Carr and my family . . . the Kerrs/Carr's lived in
Owen County in the 1840's. Constance asked about other members of the Carr family and
possible relationships. Does either of you have a connection to any of the following:
William Kerr and his wife moved from Washington County Pennsylvania to Ohio on or about
February 27, 1813. They were granted a patent for 160 acres, just north of the Greenville
Treaty Line. The land was described as the northwest quarter of Section 10 in Prairie
Township 13 North and Range 13 West in Wayne, now Holmes County, Ohio. Eli Kerr (later
to be Carr) was born at that location on May 28, 1813.
Eli, lived with his parents William Kerr and Margaret Jane Miller Kerr in Ohio until, on
June 25, 1838, he was married to Elizabeth Mitchell. Eli and Margaret moved to La Fayette
Township, Owen County, Indiana where on the 6th of May 1839 their first child Joseph
Wilson Carr was born. The first record of Eli Kerr owning land occurs in Indiana where a
little over a year, after the birth of their son Joseph Wilson, Eli and Elizabeth, on
August 7, 1840, purchased forty acres of land. Shortly after Eli acquired land his
parents as well as several of his brothers and sisters acquired land nearby. The land
title spells Eli's surname as Carr. Eli used the surname Carr from that time until
his death in 1885.
I seek the location of and cause of death of Eli's wife Margaret Mitchell.

Hi Barb,
I don't believe we have corresponded before regarding the Dunn and Karr/Carr families.
I am related to the family in that Margaret Brewster who married Robert Carr is the
sister of Agnes Brewster who married William Alexander.
William Alexander and Agnes (Brewster) Alexander are my 4th great grandparents.
I have a good bit of documented information on the Brewster, Alexander and Dunn families,
which intertwined in several marriages for several generations. I don't know a lot
about the Carr family. The book "The Maxwell Genealogy" says that Margaret
Brewster married Samuel Carr, but based on documents it appears that his given name was
Robert rather than Samuel. I have Margaret Brewster, born about 1753, marrying Robert Carr
in Virginia about 1769, and their moving to Robertson County, Tennessee, where they both
died about 1805-1806. They had at least nine children; the children are mentioned
collectively in the will of their grandfather, James Brewster, in Jessamine County,
Kentucky in 1808: "The children of my Daughter Peggy Carr be considered as one
legatee and receive one part."
The eldest child (I think) of Robert and Margaret (Brewster) Carr, also named Margaret, is
the one who married John Dunn and settled in Owen County, Indiana. Margaret and John are
first cousins, he being the son of Samuel Fowler Dunn and Elinor Brewster, another sister
of Margaret (Brewster) Carr.
I would be interested in exchanging information on the Carr family and tracing further the
children of John and Margaret (Carr) Dunn. I have them with six children and in some
cases, the names of the persons those children married, but not much more than that.
Connie
