.Mr. McGuire, many years ago, worked for Calvin Fletcher as an overseer of
the farm here. Of late years, he has been doing carpenter work and only
some two weeks ago moved to the farm west of town. He stated only a few
days ago that they were getting things nicely arranged and he was delighted
with again being on the farm.
Mr. McGuire was a son of the late Hansberry McGuire and was born north of
town, February 8, 1862.
He is survived by the widow and nine children-Walter, Arthur, Herman,
Florence, now of Lodoga, Chester, Sammy, Henry Ada and Robert. Two
children, Isom and Dovie, preceded him in death. There are 18
grandchildren.
The funeral was held at the home of his son, Henry, Monday afternoon at two
o'clock, and interment was made in Riverside.
The following obituary was read: "Samuel McGuire, son of William H. and
Rebecca J. McGuire, was born February 8, 1862, in Owen County near Spencer
and died November 22, 1924, age 62 years, 9 mo., 14 days, at the time of his
death. He was married to Mary C. Isom, December 24, 1881, and to this union
were born eleven children. All of them are present today except Isom and
Dovie who preceded him in death. The wife, seven sons, and two daughters,
one sister and one brother are left with a host of other near relatives to
mourn his untimely departure. He joined the Christian church at Mill Creek
and was converted and baptized under the ministry of Brother Jackson
"Less than three weeks ago he and his family had moved to the country, and
it was while driving home Saturday evening that his car skidded and his life
was snatched out, not realizing what had happened.
"He was well known in Spencer and Owen County and was loved by all.
His sunny smile and kind words made him many friends who regret to hear of
his death."
