Meeting July 15, 2008
“The Byerly Farm: Four Generations”
presented by Margie Byerly and Joyce Skinner
If you have ever had the desire to restore or preserve a home from the past, this might be
just the program for you. What are the processes and the steps to consider? What are
some of the pitfalls and the rewards for such an undertaking?
Margie Byerly and Joyce Skinner will be presenting a Power Point program entitled - The
Byerly Farm: Four Generations. The Byerly farm, which is located in Owen County about 1 ½
mile south of Patricksburg, was established in 1851 by Samuel Byerly Sr. It is now
occupied by Gary and Margie Byerly who are the fourth generation of Byerlys to live on the
farm. In the early 1990’s Margie and Gary took over the monumental task of restoring and
remodeling the farmhouse and all the out-lying buildings making it into a historical
showplace.
After giving a brief history of the first three generations, the remaining presentation
will focus on their work to restore the farm to its present appearance. Also part of the
program will show a portion of their farm activities and a look at some of the features
inside the farm house as well as a chance to see the beautiful landscaping and flower
gardens.
Everyone is invited to come to the Owen County Public Library's meeting room on the
upper level to listen and learn about The Byerly Farm project. Come join us July 15th at
7:00 pm, 2nd Floor, 10 S. Montgomery Street, Spencer, Indiana. Library is handicap
accessible with elevator to 2nd floor.
