Bloomington (Monroe County, Indiana) Evening World, May 4, 1912.
A premature explosion of a dynamite charge near Quincy yesterday will
probably result fatally for Lee McCullough, an Owen County farmer who had
his left eye knocked out, two holes cut in his back and his skull fractured
when the blast occurred. McCullough was brought to the city on the 3:30
train yesterday afternoon and was rushed to the Bloomington Hospital. He is
under the care of Dr. C. E. Harris.
McCullough was employed on a pike road contract and twelve shots were being
placed by the workmen in order to get enough stone for the crusher. The men
were setting the fuses with matches and McCullough did not get out of the
way in time. He is 22 years old and a son of James R. McCullough, a farmer.
He is a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge. His father and sister came
down to see him today.
