I have some information regarding the Hicks family. From the Owen County
Historical/genealogical Society. Owen County, Indiana 1994.
"A migration from Montgomery County, North Carolina, hauling their
possessions in wagons and carts made the 700 mile journey following the
Wilderness Road to Lexington, KY and then crossed the Ohio River at Madison,
Indiana and continued to Owen ounty by way of Martinsville and Gosport.
They traveled one hundred miles per week, one man detailed to hunt turkey
and deer, the meat of which they boiled each night for meals the following
day. The people were named Beaman, Bolin, Carter, Haltom, Hicks, Hurt,
Jordan, Langdon, Lucas, Luther, Morris, Randall, Reynolds, Singleton and
Stephens. They entered adjoining land, established the New Union Baptist
Church in Morgan Twsp. that, even today, is known as Carolina Church, and
lived closely bound by that never to be forgotten migration. Traditions,
imbedded in extended families, common dialect, music, and spiritual roots,
untied those neighborhood groups."
I have the names of male "Hicks" as Allen H. Hicks, James B. Hicks, George
Hicks. The Owen County Connections 1991-1996 lists the Randall, Hicks,
Luther, Humble, Haltom, and Bowlin together in a query, in another query the
Beaman, Hicks, Randall and Langdon are listed together. In the third query
that I have a copy of the families are listed together as Randall, Hicks,
Luther, Humble, Haltom, and Bowlin.
My research is focused on the Randall and Bowlin lines. Perhaps this
little I have may point you in the right direction.

Subject: [INOWEN] Samuel Hicks
Hi, I'm new to the list and am researching Samuel Hicks and Desc
(From VA
to Franklin Twp). A few years ago I received probate, marriage, death
etc. records from OCHS. Due to 'family matters' I had to put aside my
research. A couple of months ago got back to the research. Have found a
lot of new info from census, tax, etc records and especially the great
'Sweet Owen' site by Debbi (Thanks)
Now would like to know if there are any other cemetery records other than
gravestones, available anywhere, also owen co civil war records of
soldiers that died or were wounded.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Liz
Bremerton, WA
I desc from Samuel's son, Steen and wife Nancy (Puckett)'s dtr Agnes, she
was my great grandmother.
