I wrote an article for the June/July 2016 issue of the Monroe County
Historian titled "Divorce: When 'I Do' Becomes 'I Don't.'"
In that article
I address four sources for finding divorces in Monroe County, the strengths
and weaknesses of those sources, and why divorce records are of valuable
source for genealogists.
Lee Ehman wrote an article for the same issue of the Historian titled
"Captain Henry L. McCalla Exonerated." Henry came to Monroe County in 1835.
He was elected captain of Company G of the 31st Indiana Volunteers in 1861
and promoted to major in 1862. A few months after his promotion, he was
discharged for being a coward and absent without leave. The action was,
however, a misunderstanding but it took an act of Congress to "restore his
name."

Thank you, Randi. That is quite interesting and a little bit of perserverence goes a long
way, doesn't it?
Be kinder than is necessary because everyone
you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
