I just got subscribed to the list a few days ago so have only seen two
messages so far. While I live in Florida, I grew up in Morgan County, and
many of my ancestors are from Owen.
I descend from Aaron Hardwick McCarty (son of Cornelius and Susannah
Hardwick McCarty of Fairfax, VA) and Nancy Beaver who came to Owen/Putnam
area in the 1830s. Through his son, Cornelius, I am connected to the
Coombs, Combs family, the Inge, Martin, Teel, ONeal, and Goodwin, Stierwalt
families.
An interesting note is that since the Goodwins, from the very first, Abner,
came in the 1820s to Owen county, many of the males, including my
greatgrandfather Louis C. Goodwin, his father Milton C. Goodwin, and his
father, Abner C. Goodwin, (the first Goodwin in Owen) all had the middle
name Conley. I always figured there was some family connection to the
Conleys but have not yet discovered it. They all came from Nelson county,
KY along with the Combs and Truaxes, and before that from somewhere in
Pennsylvania/West Virginia area along the Ohio River.
