Barbara,
The Dittemore [to date we have found over one hundred spellings] Family first
settled in Bucks County Pennsylvania [at least this is where we have traced them.]
I personally believe they originated in Alsace-Lorraine, but, at the moment I have
no proof of this.
There are so many Ditterer-Datimer-Dotterer-Deterers as well as Tittimers etc....
There are still variations of the name in New York, New Jersey, Indiana, Illinois,
Colorado, Virginia, Texas, California, New Mexico, Ohio & Washington.
Michael Dittemore was born in 1763.PROBABLY Bedminster Township, Bucks County
Pa. He married Elizabeth Nehs. in Shenandoah County, Virginia in 1787. We have
only a meager record of the movements of the family prior to 1815, but we know
that they lived for some time in Greene County, Tennesseee, where Henry (#15 of
this record) was born. In 1815 , Michael and Elizabeth and their family settled in
Owen County Indiana. In June 1829 Michael bought 50 acres of land from Ephriam
Goss and Abner Alexander, on which he built a double, two-story log house, which
was considered the finest in all that part of the country.
This land is now known as the Sanders Addition to the town of Gosport. Michael
was a farmer, but, from about 1829 to about the time of his death, he dealt in
real estate as we have a number of old deeds conveying property in and around
Gosport. Elizabeth died 06 October 1837 and Michael 11 July 1839. Both are buried
in the Old Union Cemetery near Gosport. Michael's wife, Elizabeth, had an uncle,
Jacob Nehs, who married Annamaria Dittemore, whose identity we're still working
on.

I am looking for any information on my GGGG grandfather Michael
Dittemore who
was born in 1763 and moved to Owen Co, IN in 1815. He was married to Elizabeth
and he died in 1839 and burried in Old union Cemetery in Gosport. I would
appreciate any information on Michael or any other Dittemore's that lived in
the area. I would also like to contact any members of the Dittemore family
that still live in the area.
Thanks,
