I found recently that my GGGGrandfather, Silas W.R. JONES was a member
of the New Union (aka Little Flock or Carolina) Church, 1844-1853. The
entries in the church log appeared to be every 4th Saturday and relate
to church business. Was this a vestry meeting? Also does anyone know
what type of early Baptists Rev Beaman led? I have heard various rather
curious terms such as "Regular, Seperate, New Lights, Hard Shell, etc".
Thanks for any information you can offer on this group.
This is probably Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church located 10 miles south of
Spencer on SR 43. Organized in 1842 near Union School. The church "log"
appears to have been the Church Clerk's recording of the business meeting. Each
Baptist Church is independent and conducts their business by a meeting of the
entire congregation. Since they are independent it results in a lot of
different names "Primitive", "Regular"
etc. Haven't heard "Hard Shell" recently, but I'm sure there are some.
Their
is more information on this church in the "Owen County History " published in
1994.
