Your Hilsabecks lived in the same area in Jefferson Twp that my Huffmans
did. I was in Owen Co. last week and received information on early land
that my ancestor had. I was given a page from a book I think is in the
library. It has a description of the land, what section it is in, acres,
date of entry and name of purchaser. These are the Hilsabeck entries -
S.E. - N.W. section 23 40 acres 1 March 1836 John Hilsabeck
S.W. - N.W. section 23 40 acres 27 May 1836 John Hilsabeck
E.1/2 -S.W. section 23 80 acres 18 Aug. 1836 John Hilsabeck
W.1/2 -S.W. section 23 80 acres 4 Jan. 1839 John Hilsabeck
N.W. - S.E. section 23 40 acres 8 Feb. 1845 John Hilsabeck
This land is located between Arney and the Pleasant Bethel Cemetery. I have
a copy of a township map (I think you can get these at the courthouse) and
the twp is sectioned off in 1 square mile sections. If you would like a
copy of the map and the land info and how to read the map, I can send you a
copy. I just need your snail mail address.
There are books at the library on deaths, marriages and births. I dont know
the dates they started because my mother was with me and she has that info
with her but I can give you the name of the genealogy librarian at the
library and the address, fax and phone number. She can copy the pages from
the books on the Hilsabecks for the cost of copies -

The pages will have a reference as to where they are located at the
courthouse and I know about the marriages. You can call the courthouse and
if you know the book # and page #, they will send you copies free. I have
the number to the courthouse here somewhere also or the library can give it
to you. There is also a cemetery listing book at the library.
I hope I have helped you in someway. Many people have helped me and I like
to return the favor for others.
One word to the people on the list, just because it is not listed in the
book, DON'T GIVE UP!
I have just returned from Owen Co. researching my ancestors and my mother
and I were able to locate a grave in the Pleasant Bethel Cemetery in
Jefferson Twp. that was missed on the cemetery listings. It was of Mary
Huffman, wife of Michael Huffman who died in 1862. She is my ggg
grandmother.
Good luck to all,
Carol Lindamood

Subject: [INOWEN] question on Owen County Vital Records
Hi, does anyone know how early Owen County started recording birth,
death,
and marriage records? And, how would I obtain any existing records?
I'm interested to find proof of birth for Anderson Jackson HILSABECK, b.
25 Nov
1851 in Owen Co (not sure which township).
I'm also interested to find proof of death for his grandfather, John Henry
HILSABECK, d. 4 Apr 1847 in Owen Co.
Best wishes to all, good hunting to all,
Elizabeth Chain
