The only connection I have of Bowen & Arney is too late to be of help in
this discussion, but thought you might like to have it:
John BOWEN, Jr. and Nancy CHILDRESS had a daughter, Sarah BOWEN, born 8 Dec
1860 Owen Co., died 1900, buried Freedom, Owen Co. IL, Dutch Bethel
Cemetery. She married Hiram J. ARNEY 27 Dec. 1884. Hiram was born 5 May
1857.

Priscilla and all,
You raise an interesting question. The Owen Co. Marriage book is the
Index to
Owen Co. Indiana marriage Records
1819-1920 publication sold by the Owen Co Historical Society. It is
a
combined version of the 2 books available in the
Spencer library and Allen Co. library. I used it for my note rather
than
the on line version at the Indiana state library
because I couldn't get through to that site for several days. The
actual
book does list the names as Arney and Bowen and
the date as 9-1-1846 so it is probably the same marriage.
However, I've not seen Mabel referred to in any other literature
I've
seen, and there are several Bevan or Beavin
families in the county. It does make more sense for Mary Ellen to be
in
the will if she's a Bowen not a Beavin unless
there is an Arney connection to Bowen that I'm not aware of.
I also do see in the book of marriages a listing for the John W.
Arney
marriage in 1850 to Rebecca Fiscus.
A Mabel Bowen marriage to Arney would explain why Mary Ellen
is an
heir of John Bowen Sr. A Mabel Bowen death would
explain why Mabel is not listed as an heir and why Mary Ellen is as
none
of the other children (i.e. grandchildren) of
living children are mentioned.
Thanks for pointing out this problem. Judy
