OBJECTIVE:
To find out what happened to Elizabeth (CARTER)ARNETT; the remaining
question mark in the 13 children of John & Eliza (Nutterfield) CARTER
Elizabeth Carter (d/o John & Eliza)
Samuel ARNETT on August 22, 1853 in Owen county, IN.
This is recorded in the Owen county marriage records as well as the CARTER
family bible.
In addition, there is also recorded in the bible the birth of a child;
Ann ARNETT on March 22, 1854 in Owen county.
Elizabeth appeared in the 1850 census records in the home of her parents in
Taylor township.
There is no further appearance of the newly married couple in any census
records.
There are opinions that they migrated to Tipton county, but there are no
records there either. A further search in the Federal Census doesn't show
them appearing in ANY state in the 1860 census.
In checking the birth/death records for Putnam and Morgan county finds no
further records of children born to them or a death for either of them.
There are no burial records for either of them.
Elizabeth was 1 of 13 children.
Her mother died in 1866 in Putnam county and her father died there in 1901.
Of her siblings:
1.Matilda Ann died in 1843 around Montgomery township
2.Goalson died in 1839 in Montgomery township
3.Lonzo died in 1848 in Montgomery or Taylor township
4.Nancy Jane m. William Pitman and later migrated to Douglas co. Illinois
and remained there till death.
5.Margaret Ellen m. Wm. C. Mannan and they resided in and around the
Owen/Putnam/Morgan county areas till their deaths and are buried in Mannan
Cemetery.
6.Calvin m. Rosella Baldwin(d/o McKinney). He died in 1865 from CW wounds
and is buried in Combs Cemetery.
7.Ludwell m. Mahala McCullough(d/o Wm & Sarah) and later m. Margaret Rumple
(d/o Jacob & Elizabeth) and they resided in the Eminence area for their
lifetime and are buried at Mannan Cemetery
8.John Stamper m. Nancy Pitman and he died in 1908.
9. Columbia m. Sarah McDonald and he died in 1865 due typhoid pneumonia and
measles while on furlough.
10.Lucy Jane m. Jerome Taylor and they resided in Gosport until 1880 and
then migrated to Worth co. MO and remained there.
11. George Mason married 3 times (Parnelia Chainey,Margaret Vincent and
Lorena Wharton) He died in Cloverdale May 26, 1922
12. Morris m. Mary Susan Duncan and they resided in Owen/Morgan and later
Monroe county and he died March 9, 1934.
