OBJECTIVE:
What became of Jonathan & Francis "Franky" (Davis) MASSEY. Where are they
buried??
Jonathan Massey b. about 1773 in NC married Francis Davis (d/o John &
Elizabeth) on November 2, 1797 in Grainger county, TN.
It is possible that Jonathan is the son of Thomas.
Census records show that the couple later migrated into Pulaski county KY
and then on to Owen county IN. It was originally thought to be Bourbon
county KY but there is another John Massey there and he remained there
until his death in 1863 and never moved so it is a different one from mine.
Jonathan is found residing in the Montgomery township area of Owen county in
the 1850 census in household 255.
At that time there were only two others residing in their home.
Their daughter Jane and a grandchild Lydia.
Even though at that time, Jonathan was 77 and Franky was 73 and it is most
likely that they did die shortly after, I am finding no records of death or
burial anywhere within the county.
There were a total of 6 children born to Jonathan and Franky.
1.Issac b. 1807 m. Nancy HOOTEN (d/o Littleton & Anna (Wilson) Hooten)
They resided in the Montgomery twp area in the 1850 census in household 284.
2.Lucy Ann b. 1809 m. John Evans(s/o David & Elizabeth). John died in 1853
and shortly after 1860 census, Lucy went to Douglas co. Illinois with her
son and she died there in 1865 just before the end of CW.
3.Willis b. about 1813 m. Harriet Gillaspy(d/o Martin). Harriet's 1st
husband was Newton Boggs.
4.Jacob b. 1814 m. Jane Modrell. They are found residing in Gosport in the
1850 census and Jacob died in 1882 is buried in Gosport Cemetery. At least
two of their children remained in the area of Owen county.
5.Elizabeth b. 1818 m. Emanuel Hooten (s/o Littleton) They had 10 children
and both of them died in the Paragon IN area; Elizabeth in 1877 and 1883. No
idea where they are buried.
6.Jane b. about 1824 m. Hiram Carter (no idea is there is a relation).
It is my thought that Jane was either a widow or later divorced from Hiram
as she is living with her parents in 1850.
I would really like to find the origin for this Massey lineage.
