It would be almost impossible to determine the country of origin simply
based on the fact that someone lived in Rowan County, NC.
Many people immigrated here from Europe and landed at various ports; some in
NY, others in Philadelphia, some at Annapolis, there were many up and down
the coast.
The reason that you have so many from Rowan County I would imagine is
because in the years around 1760, there was a mass migration of persons into
the North Carolina area in search of a better life and greener pastures.
These people came from many different areas, but several came from the
Pennsylvania areas.
The reason I would suspect that you have so many from the Rowan County area
is that what at that time was Rowan County would later break away to form 24
different counties between 1777-1861. So at one time, all these people were
in Rowan County.
I research my own families as well as my husband's. We both have people in
Rowan County NC. Some were from Germany, some from England, some from
Ireland, some from Switzerland. The only real way to find the country of
origin would be to find the port that they arrived in and where that ship
came from.
I hope this answers some questions.
