Just had to respond. My ancesters, Henry Wyatt (Wiat) and Elizabeth Redd
had a daughter, my ancestor named Emily Permelia who chose to use the name
Permelia rather than Emily. She was born c1790 in Spotsylvania (or King &
Queen) Virginia.
They moved to Kentucky c1820.

This name "Permelia" is so curious. Perhaps that was being
commonly used
in
the 1850-1880s as I find this on a difficult-to-read 1880 Harrison, Owen,
Indiana census sheet and it has been transcribed as this:
Perniclia JONES Dau S Female W 18 IN At Home IN IN
I have never found anyone else with this name. I'm guessing it should have
been Permelia. I always enjoy reading these email inowen exchanges - and
